About the university
St. George’s University (SGU) teaches a four-year MD (Doctor of Medicine) programme in English. The first two years, the basic sciences, take place on the True Blue campus in Grenada or at Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK, with the same curriculum. Clinical training takes place at more than 85 affiliated hospitals and health systems in the US, the UK and Canada.
Tracks after secondary school
Applicants who have just finished secondary school start on the five-, six- or seven-year track. Depending on their previous education, the university places them in the first, second or third year of the preclinical phase. To move on to the MD programme, they need a GPA of at least 3.2 and a pass in the PMSCE exam. The seven-year track is offered only in Grenada.
Admission
- Studies start in January, April or August.
- There is no application fee. After reviewing the documents, the university invites the applicant to an interview.
- Applicants from outside North America do not take the MCAT. The university requires it from applicants from the US.
- Applicants from non-English-speaking countries need IELTS 7.0 overall and in each component, or a TOEFL score at the level set by the university.
Accreditation
According to the university, the MD programme is accredited by the Grenada Medical and Dental Council (GMDC) and recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the US National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA). It is also approved in the states of New York, New Jersey and California.
Tuition fees
Fees are paid per semester, in US dollars. The rates apply from 1 June 2026 and are the same in Grenada and in Newcastle. The administrative fee, which covers most student services, is added to the tuition fee. The five-, six- and seven-year tracks have no administrative fee.
