Biology and chemistry entrance exam: a 3-month study plan

Most medical entrance exams abroad are a biology and chemistry test in English. You can prepare for one in three months if you follow a study plan.

What the exam looks like

Most often it’s a multiple-choice test: 50 to 100 questions in biology and chemistry, sometimes in physics as well. Some universities add an interview in English to assess your motivation and basic language skills.

The scope usually matches the advanced-level school-leaving exam, but the questions are shorter and test your ability to connect facts quickly rather than write out long answers.

Month 1: reviewing the basics

  • cell biology, genetics, and molecular biology;
  • general chemistry: atomic structure, chemical bonds, stoichiometry;
  • 20 minutes of English vocabulary every day, e.g., cell membrane, covalent bond.

Month 2: harder topics and English

  • human physiology: the circulatory, nervous, and endocrine systems;
  • organic chemistry: functional groups and key reactions;
  • answer questions in the language of the exam, without translating them into Polish in your head.

Tip

Keep a notebook of your mistakes. Write down every question you got wrong along with the correct answer, and come back to it a week later.

Month 3: timed tests

The final month is for mock exams in real exam conditions: with a timer, without your phone, in one sitting. After each test, check which topics cost you the most points and go back to them.

Exam day

  • Bring your ID card or passport and your registration confirmation.
  • Arrive 30 minutes early.
  • Check whether there is negative marking for wrong answers. If not, don’t leave any answers blank.

Results are usually out within a few days. If it doesn’t go well, many universities offer a second exam date, and we help you transfer your application.
