Medical studies in Ukraine make dreams come true
Medical degrees such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine are a dream for many people, but only a few manage to reach the difficult and time-consuming goal of getting into one of these elite programs. Not everyone knows at a young age what they would like to do in the future. Many people take quite a long time to get to know themselves, and we often discover our aspirations in life several years after finishing high school, and sometimes much later.
Dentistry and medicine are the most sought-after fields of study in the world. That’s hardly surprising, since they are among the few programs whose graduates are guaranteed recognition on the job market and, with it, excellent earnings and real satisfaction from their work. Veterinary medicine and pharmacy are also very popular.
Getting into a free full-time medical program often goes hand in hand with years of preparation, and a few hours a week of private tutoring with a renowned teacher is a luxury not everyone can afford. Hard work is often not enough: many people retake their school-leaving exams for years just to gain the few points they were missing in previous years. The admission cut-offs for fee-paying programs are, of course, lower, and for some people this may be a solution, but most simply can’t afford them.
Is it fair to others?
Many people believe that studying in Ukraine isn’t fair to those who worked for years to get into a free full-time medical program in their own country. Yet nobody talks about people who pay to study in evening programs or at private universities.
Medical studies in Ukraine: are they worth it?
Medical studies in Ukraine give a chance to those who can’t afford expensive studies in their own country. Medicine in Ukraine costs from $4,000 a year, and you can study dentistry for as little as $4,300 a year. Add to that much lower living costs, and it’s safe to say that medical studies in Ukraine cost on average four times less.

The saying “travel broadens the mind” takes on special meaning when it comes to studying medicine in Ukraine. Learning the language of the country and getting to know different cultures brings many benefits, and students at Ukrainian universities come from 154 countries around the world, from Nigeria to the US. Another undeniable advantage is the opportunity to study in English: it’s used all over the world, and every doctor should have the best possible command of it. In Ukraine, you can also study in Ukrainian and Russian.
Medical programs demand dedication, no matter where you study. At many renowned universities they aren’t easy, and the same goes for Ukraine. The quality of teaching in Ukrainian medical programs doesn’t differ significantly from that in European Union countries. As in the rest of Europe, there are many medical universities in Ukraine, which is why it’s important to choose the best one.
- Class groups are small, and every student receives special attention.
- International students are the main focus of Ukrainian medical universities, so the universities try to give them as many opportunities for development as possible.
- Graduates can start their careers in highly developed countries such as Germany, England, the Scandinavian countries, the UAE, and even the US, where salaries and opportunities for development are extremely attractive.
- English-taught programs are a specialty of Ukrainian medical universities, so you don’t have to worry that your level will fall behind that of graduates from other European universities.
If you can’t afford to study medicine in Poland, or you simply want to study medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy in English, medical studies in Ukraine may turn out to be exactly the right choice. It’s also worth adding that, with the growing demand for doctors and dentists across Europe, getting a diploma from outside the EU recognized is becoming easier and easier.
Careers after medical studies
It’s often the case that new medical students don’t yet know exactly what they’ll want to do after graduation. Fortunately, we live in times when knowledge is widely available: all it takes is the will and, of course, the right resources. There are many valuable courses, lectures, and conferences in Poland and abroad, and online we can find scientific publications on the topics that interest us. Anyone who wants to become a good specialist in their chosen field can achieve it by gaining knowledge in a variety of ways.
English opens doors
That’s exactly why studying a medical program in English is so valuable. The most prestigious courses, conferences, and lectures are held in English, and most well-known and prestigious schools are located not in Poland but abroad.
